Knightfool: The Fall of the Splatman
(Parody, 1993)
©1993 Bill Maus
1993’s Knightfall storyline was an interminable storyline in which Batman had his back broken by the villain Bane. As a result, he had to arrange for Jean Paul Valley (Azrael) to stand in for him as the new Batman. This led to an even longer Knightquest storyline in which Batman’s back slowly healed and he fought to reclaim the role of Batman from Azrael.
Parody Press! pokes fun at all this with their one-shot Knightfool: The Fall of the Splatman. Here, the intrepid Splatman races back to his Splatcave hoping to slip on his fuzzy bunny slippers and watch some television. To his shock, he discovers that the door to the Splatcave has been stuck shut with Crazy Glue. He plows his Splatmobile into the door, literally throwing out his back. (He now keeps his spinal column in a jar on the bedside table.) As a result, he’s forced to call for a stand-in. You guessed it—it’s the hyperactive Spazzreal!
