Rio at Bay

Doug Wildey is one of the most notable, if often unrecognized, illustrators in comics. Before creating Rio, he did a comic version of the Saint, ghosted strips for Steve Canyon, and served a three-year stint on Marvel’s The Outlaw Kid. His most popular creation, however, was Jonny Quest, developed for both comics and TV.

Drawing from his experience at Marvel, Wildey created Rio, a western rifleman who stars in this two-issue mini-series. Here Rio must defend a young miner who made the mistake of winning a family heirloom from the mining company owner’s son in a game of poker. The owner’s son was a bad loser, however, and sent gunmen to kill the boy and reclaim what he had lost.
