Boy, what a great read this was. One panel per page in this thick tome of crisp colors makes for a brisk, marching read. It’s the tale of Simon and Jack, a boy and his gigantic, long-tailed cat, as they discover a staircase to the sky, encounter birds and clouds, and… well, that’s plenty of adventure for one morning. It’s a comfortable story to slip into, catching the explorations of an hour that characterize childhood. The phonetic spellings are just frequent enough to serve the story rather than obstructing the flow of the story. And the ending is nicely fulfilling. Good show, Jordan Crane.
