Dawn: 15th Anniversary Posterbook

Striking images of a well-proportioned woman in lingerie is rarely a publishing risk and Joseph Michael Linsner’s creation is certainly no exception. The goddess of life that originally appeared as a reoccurring image in the anthology title, Cry for Dawn in 1989, has become the star of several limited series. To commemorate the fifteenth anniversary of her first appearance, Image Comics published this over–sized posterbook.

However in order to appreciate most of the art, the “reader” must remove the staples since each image is printed across a two–page spread.

The inside front cover features a short interview with Linsner who expounds on the weighty archetypal origins of the character. He reveals that he “had no idea how deep her oceans were, and what a long and winding road the quest of exploring her many mysteries would prove to be.” His enthusiasm seems a little pretentious, but that does not detract from the art.
