™ and ©1992 John Byrne

A shipwrecked spaceman discovers an Eden-like biosphere on an otherwise desolate planet, and has a passionate encounter with the beautiful female resident. But when the space explorer runs headlong into a huge, menacing creature, he jumps to the conclusion that the girl and the monster are somehow the same being, and flees in terror. Later, while he ponders his narrow escape, the young woman laments her lost love while she raises their child alone, except for the companionship of a huge robot guardian.

This sci-fi love story is written and drawn by fan favorite John Byrne, known for his work on Uncanny X-Men, Fantastic Four, Superman, Avengers, and many others. It is an excellent example of visual storytelling, without any dialogue or narrative captions of any kind. Apparently inspired by an ad in Heavy Metal, the story first appeared in black-and-white format in The Art of John Byrne.
