One of the more intriguing science fiction movies of recent years, Total Recall is a story of secret agents, false memories, and misplaced identities. Based on the novel “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” by Phillip K. Dick, it was made into a blockbuster movie in 1990 starring Arnold Schwartzenegger and Sharon Stone.

The story begins when a downtrodden future worker named Doug decided to escape his troubles by taking a virtual vacation. Instead of actually going anywhere, the memories are simply implanted. When the vacation service attempted to implant Doug, something went wrong. A memory that had been erased was restored, and Doug remembered that he had not always been a common laborer. He had been an agent named Quaid, and had gotten too close to a fearful scheme involving the Martian colony. Doug’s whole life was a lie—a memory implanted as part of the cover-up. Or was he dreaming now?
