Planet of Geeks

Comix veteran R.L. Crabb brings us this nervous look at our own world…a planet—let’s face it—full of geeks. And despite what lead feature Little Greta Garbage may say, these losers are not generally what make a girl’s heart beat faster.

Take Augie for instance (please!). He achieves brief notoriety when he is rescued after being trapped for six days in a garbage can. Now, as a movie producer courts him for the film rights, he goes fishing under the bridge where he lives and seems to catch nothing but eyeballs. This story is followed by Crabb’s take on the John Wayne Bobbet dismemberment (a surprisingly funny and upbeat one-pager). Other features talk about Crabb’s brief stint as a repo-man and crack in-jokes which only comics cognoscenti could ever stand a chance of getting. Crabb’s edgy artistic style works well with these stories, adding to their already anxious feel.
