The Two Faces of Tomorrow is science-fiction author James P. Hogan’s tale of intelligent computers run amok on the moon. It was originally adapted for Japanese manga by writer/artist Yukinobu Hoshino, then translated back into English by Fredrik Schodt and Toren Smith for release as this black-and-white thirteen-issue limited series from Dark Horse. In the future, intelligent computers provide many critical services and run industries, but they lack the common sense to make good decisions. Dr. Raymond Dyer and his team attempt to correct this flaw by building a truly intelligent computer with judgment, and put it to the test in a simulated confrontation between man and machine. Hoshino provides an atmospheric and detailed rendering of the world of Two Faces of Tomorrow, but the glacial pace of the storytelling indicates something may have been lost in the English-to-Japanese-to-English translation.
