Hood Magazine
(Oakland, 1997)
™ and ©1996 ABC/Art
Yo dog, check it out! Hood Magazine is the best, worst, and possibly only comic devoted to hip hop humor—the original “chronic chomic” if you wanna believe the hype. The product of the twisted brain of Age Scott (a.k.a. Snook #85), Hood riffs on the bad boy image of the rap community for its laughs and delivers a mutha-load. If you’re down with the homeboys, you can’t fade Hood for its irreverent and subversive look at pop culture. Otherwise you might need a very up-to-date 1990s dictionary to figure out some of the dialogue. Although clearly a freshman release, Hood makes up for its ragged-edged presentation with some hard-edged material.
