The Punisher Magazine
(Marvel, 1989-1990)
™ and ©1990 Marvel Entertainment Group
Although he first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #129, the Punisher began to come into his own in the black-and-white pages of Marvel Preview. By 1989, the skull-chested vigilante was one of Marvel’s most popular characters. It was fitting then, that Marvel decided to reprint some of his earliest adventures from Punisher (Ltd. Series), Punisher, and The Punisher War Journal in this black-and-white magazine.
If anything, these uncolored pages are truer to the spirit of a sole vigilante fighting for vengeance against the criminal element than the regular, color Punisher titles. In a venue free of gratuitous encounters with super-hero types, we get to see Frank Castle use both cunning and gunplay to achieve his aims.
