Death3
(Marvel UK, 1993)
™ and ©1993 Marvel Comics UK, Ltd.
Set in a ruthless future, this four-part series exhibits strong parallels to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Just as in the classic, the story is narrated by the letters and journal of the scientist who creates a half-man, half-monster. There’s one chilling difference, however. Whereas Dr. Frankenstein sought to destroy his creation in the name of morality, the doctor in this case, Evelyn Necker, the creator of Death’s Head II, has no conscience whatsoever. Instead, she creates cyborgs to perfect her creation, and kills for the needed human parts.
When her prototype cyborg, Minion, returns after two years, with all his human weaknesses intact, she sends him into another dimension to retrieve a mysterious metal alloy. The unprincipled Dr. Necker uses it to create a new Prometheus, Death Metal. But like Dr. Frankenstein, she finds out some monsters are not easy to control.
