When he was last seen at the end of his regular series, bounty hunter Jonah Hex was sitting at a bar in the Old West of 1875. As this series begins, Hex is pulled forward in time to the year 2050. Reinhold Borsten, a megalomaniacal future scientist had kidnapped Hex, along with military men from all different time periods, to keep in a sort of collection for his personal amusement.

Hex, however, was not about to let himself be caged. He staged a daring escape and left Reinhold’s compound. Outside he found a blasted world, victim of a nuclear holocaust. The skies rained pure acid, and the land was overrun with criminal gangs who fought over the means to purify water from the nuclear radiation. It was a whole new world, but for Hex, it might as well have been the Wild West all over again.
