During the summers of the 1960s, DC reprinted stories of their top characters in 80-page annuals for 25 cents. The 80-Page Giant became a staple of summer in the Silver Age. Eventually the summer annual evolved to a lower page count, higher price and new material rather than old. But in 1998 DC decided the nostalgic value of “80-Page Giants” warranted their return, albeit for a bit more than 25 cents.
Although Adventure Comics had been cancelled in 1983, its anthology format and impressive history of characters that premiered in its pages made it a natural for the 80-Page Giant ploy. This one-shot title showcased stories starring Wonder Woman, Shazam!, Green Arrow, The Legion of Super-Heroes, Bizarro, Superboy and Supergirl.
