Alison Dare is a precocious 12-year-old whose adventures are the stuff of Lara Croft of Tomb Raider crossed with Spy Kids. Perhaps reckless adventuring is in her blood. Her father became an ancient Egyptian-based super-hero, the Blue Scarab, in the episode where he met and fell in love with Alison’s mother. Her mother in turn is an archeologist in the same exhilarating vein as Indiana Jones and she sometimes takes Alison to exotic locales. Her uncle is a super-spy á la James Bond except his repertoire of disguises makes his appearances a surprise. Alison’s cool demeanor in the face of life-threatening situations is standard policy for fictional prepubescent kids but she is not above revealing her concern for her mother when her actions have unforeseen consequences.

The book collects issues 1 to 3 of The Return of Alison Dare. It is appropriate for all ages and effectively straddles the line between adventure and humor.
