Zen Intergalactic Ninja (5th Series)

    (Archie, 1992-1993)
™ and ©1992 Zen Comics, Inc.

He’s blue, he’s an alien Ninja, and he’s here to help us save the rainforest. Archie’s version of Zen Intergalactic Ninja is a considerably nicer version of Zen than is found in the black-and-white comics published by Zen comics. Here we see the alien leading a team of bio-mechanical lifeforms known as the Recycled Heroes. Their chief foes are a nasty bunch of environment-destroyers called (bluntly enough) the Contaminators, led by the dread Lord Contaminous.

The closest analog to this series is probably Captain Planet and the Planeteers; the plots here are full of dinosaurs, boy sidekicks, and high-spirited adventure, even while they address what to adults is a very serious problem. Zen, who has no mouth, even manages to keep up a steady stream of telepathic wisecracks as he knocks heads with the bad guys.
