Arcana (Wells & Clark)

 ARWC   (Wells & Clark, 1995-1996)

™ and ©1994 Rob Clark and T.S. Wells

Flagg and Foxglove are a couple of hardworking, loveable con artists. They’re on the run from almost everyone, but always manage to stay a step ahead. Clorinda is a troubled young woman of fey ancestry. She’s running from her past, and quickly losing ground.

Chance brings the three together in time to avert an emotional crisis for Clorinda. Flagg and Foxglove are irresistibly drawn to the girl and welcome her into their home and hearts. Clorinda, out of hope and with nowhere else to turn, finds herself trusting these complete strangers.

Arcana is a beautifully drawn and well-told story. It has both a magical, medieval quality, and characters which are as real as the readers. Though serious, there is true humor in the tale. One of the most realistic bits of writing involves a spider (a big spider!) in the outhouse.
