Three kids struggle to survive in a future wrecked by chemical and biological war. Complicating matters are the malevolent “slinks”—once adults, but now inky, black, flesh-eating monsters. Spunky Sarah anchors the story with support from her big brother and geeky tinkerer Edison who built their robotic nanny Mike-9. Also present: an orphaned boy named Poncho, Sara's cat Tab Tab, and Lulu, an elephant rescued from the zoo. “Children of the Future Age” deals with loss, as Sarah and Edison try to find their missing father. The book ends with the door left open for more adventures. Kit Wallis’ inspired and painterly artwork lightens the tone of the book and puts the reader in mind of high-end manga.
