Samurai 7

Kyoshi is not only an elderly Japanese priest, but he’s also a dwarf, so when he’s set upon by a team of ninja killers, one guesses he’s not long for this series, right? Wrong, for he quickly dispatches all of them, making it clear that there is far more to this small man than meets the eye. In fact, not only is he highly skilled himself, but he’s also assembled and trained a team of superpowered individuals to help him in his battle against the Earth’s enemies. Though raw and in some cases hotheaded, the youths—mostly Westerners—have power, and it’s a good thing, because the forces aligned against them are mighty as well. And they are backed by godlike beings of far greater power still. Will the Samurai 7 be up to the task?

Shades of the X-Men and other such groups abound in this series from Gauntlet Comics, a division of Caliber Press. Written and drawn by Patrick Zircher.
