Maxwell the Magic Cat

 MTMC   (Acme, 1986)

™ and ©1986 Alan Moore

A good deal darker—more subversive, perhaps—than Jim Davis’s “Garfield,” Alan Moore’s Maxwell the Magic Cat owes more to George Herriman’s “Krazy Kat” than Charles Schultz’s “Peanuts.” A talking feline who magically fell from the sky, Maxwell delights in the killing and devouring of rodents and birds, and he is audaciously aware of his superiority to the other species on the planet, including humans. This black-and-white series collects Moore’s comic strips from England’s The Northants Post with commentary from writer-artist Eddie Campbell and Moore himself.
