Green Lantern (1st Series)

Engineer Alan Scott was working on a railroad bridge when rivals decided to get even by blowing it up. Scott survived, and the antique lantern he carried for good luck turned out to be an ancient artifact capable of bestowing him with the power to seek justice against evildoers. Scott fashioned a ring from the lantern as a portable rechargeable power source, and began his career as the Golden Age super-hero Green Lantern.

Green Lantern first appeared in All-American Comics #16 in July, 1940 and won his own title in 1941. He also appeared in All Star Comics as a member of the Justice Society of America, and in Comic Cavalcade alongside the Flash and Wonder Woman. He was revived in the 1960s as the “Earth-2” counterpart to the Silver Age Green Lantern (originally Hal Jordan) and continues to appear in DC comics to the present day.
