She’s a voodoo goddess from the plane of dark magics. He’s an urban Zombie boy living in L.A. Obviously the two were destined for each other.

Tabu, the goddess, came to this world seeking the last of five staves which had been made with earth’s purest magic, created when the world was young. With it, she hoped to do battle with Baron Samedi, the general of her father’s undead army. Samedi had turned on her father, stolen his soul, and forced her to flee to our world. There she found the staff in the hands of Morgan McCorkindale, the son of a billionaire who had been turned into a zombie due a “mysterious island sickness.” Zombie or not, McCorkindale was the quintessential bored L.A. teen, and only agreed to give her the staff if she would let him join up with her in the battle against Samedi and his army.
