The Big Prize

 BIGP   (Eternity, 1988)

ô and ©1988 Gerard Jones, Bryon Carson and Mike Roberts

From the Slings & Arrows Comic Guide:

The peculiarly named Willis Austerlitz dreams of the gentler days of the 1930s, when, he feels, everything was somehow more decent. Heís then given the opportunity to live his dreams courtesy of the big prize, the winning ticket in a planet-wide lottery of the future thatís somehow materialized in 1988. The thin plot contrivance can be forgiven in context, as the remainder of the issue compensates. Austerlitz is wearing rose-colored glasses, of course, and, able to travel to 1934, he finds itís not what he anticipated. Gerard Jones writes in an intriguing and wistful manner, and although the art of Bryon Carson and Mike Roberts is somewhat static, itís not enough to detract from the whole. Disappointingly, the story remains incomplete, but what there is, is worth investigating. ~FP
