The Authority/Lobo: Spring Break Massacre

This comic book has no apparent reason to exist. For starters, it’s a sequel to a sequel. The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special was a typical Lobo shoot-’em-up. The Authority/Lobo: Jingle Hell added the novelty of Lobo running amuck in the WildStorm universe. The Authority/Lobo Spring Break Massacre brings nothing new to the table—except, perhaps, rabbits.

To say the story is contrived would be kind. The art is grotesque. It’s not bad or unskillfully rendered, so much as it is sick: cute little anthropomorphic bunnies-skinned-alive kind of sick. Although J.D. Mettler’s colors do make the art pop, assuming you want it to pop. The basic plot point, that Lobo is still running loose in the WildStorm universe, is not even resolved. It’s just an excuse to watch Lobo throw down with The Authority again and to slaughter bunnies. For readers looking for that kind of thing: Here it is.

Ostensibly an Easter comic book, this arrived a little too late for either Easter or Spring Break, not that that has much impact either way.
