America’s Best Comics

 AMBC   (America’s Best, 2001)

™ and ©2001 Alan Moore

In 1999 Alan Moore ambitiously undertook the writing chores of an entire new line of comics. The line, America’s Best Comics, is Jim Lee’s imprint for DC Comics featuring a number of characters that evoke icons of the form. Perhaps the most surprising aspect of these titles is the revelation of Alan Moore’s talent for humor, demonstrated in “First American,” “Splash Brannigan” and “Jack B. Quick,” which diverge markedly from the drama-laden tales of Swamp Thing and Watchmen that secured Moore’s reputation.

This 64-page special, under a striking cover by Alex Ross, is an anthology book showcasing the characters of the ABC line. Characters who have their own titles, Tom Strong, Promethea and Top Ten, are present along with those who populate the regular anthology title, Tomorrow Stories. Additionally, a tour of America’s Best Comics offices that first appeared in Wizard’s America’s Best Comics Preview is reprinted.
