Spike Lee is a black filmmaker known for such controversial films as “Do the Right Thing” and “She’s Gotta Have It.” Now, his Forty Acres and a Mule Filmworks has teamed up with Dark Horse Comics to bring us “Comics from Spike,” leading off with this five-issue mini-series, Floaters.

Floaters takes place in a frenzied futuristic world where narcotics are legal (and exotic) and life is cheap. Skinheads (and, for that matter, everyone else) are constantly taking shots at each other, and a group of killer vigilantes called the Quivering Thighs is terrorizing the “nice” neighborhood, much to the delight of the media.

Due to generations of interracial marriage, the world is full of exotic-looking people, and the local street-lingo is a futuristic cultural mishmash. A glossary of terms is kindly provided for the reader’s enlightenment.
