Black and white series; read right to left.

Caught while burying his mom (whom he’s murdered), high-schooler Yuri gets his butt kicked by Anne Freaks. Naturally, he falls in love with the strange girl who knows his evil secret and asks him to abet her equally abhorrent goal of killing her own father.

Anne isn’t just a pretty face. She is Yuri’s cold-blooded protector, offing a girl who may expose him and thrashing his male classmates who seek revenge. She even has enough extra aggression to save the teenager Mitsuba by shooting the masked gang members who have killed Mitsuba’s “sister” and “dad.” Evidently, Anne’s dad is the leader of the Kakusei Group cult, so La Femme Freak has little compunction in disposing of anyone who gets in her way.

In the unsettling era of Columbine copycat school shootings, one could argue that such a story is not only in bad taste but can also give kids bad ideas. (And keep the CBLDF up at night.) Casually exploiting cheap shock value but providing little drama, this title musters little defense.
