Omega One

Omega One is a team comprised super-powered characters, some heroes, and some villains who are conscripted into government service for various “black ops.” The members of the unit have an invisible bracelet that appears whenever they are needed. Failure to acknowledge the call results in death, either their own or someone they care about. The team consists of the usual mix of noble, selfless hero types (Echo, Rundown, Ant) and arrogant, crass egotists (Coldplay, Caliente). Team interaction is volatile and tense, making the necessary teamwork needed for the kind of missions they are assigned unlikely. The government doesn’t seem to have considered cooperation to be an integral component of successful missions.

The inside front cover and the author’s text page indicate that this title, as well as all the books of that month, are dedicated to the men and women of the armed forces which may be a noble sentiment but seems self-serving in light of some unfortunate shortcomings. This title, with brief nudity, sexual situations and characters with personal insecurities purports to be intended for a mature audience. A better example of maturity might be closer attention to spelling and history. An important plot element contends that Hitler was “days away” from finishing a weapon called the “continent killer” when the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima where one of the components was being built. Hitler then killed himself in despair. A simple check of facts reveals that Hitler killed himself a week before Germany surrendered and that was three months before Hiroshima. If Omega One exists in some alternate reality where this timeline makes sense, a reference to that reality should be made obvious.
