Catwoman: When in Rome

After the events of “The Long Halloween” and “Dark Victory” (both also written by Jeph Loeb), Selina Kyle has been troubled by the knowledge that Mafia boss Carmine Falcone, better known as The Roman, was her father. So when she receives an invitation from the capo di capi of the Falcone clan’s original stomping grounds, she grabs Edward Nigma by the ear, stuffs him and her bullwhip into a suitcase, and flies to sunny Italy.

Unfortunately, her life in Gotham City refuses to be left behind; it appears first in her dreams, and then in the worst place possible at the worst possible time. Tim Sale’s fluid art shifts from the softer lines for the mundane world and a hard–edged expressionism when the costumes come out. Meanwhile, the passive–aggressive interplay between Kyle and Nigma indicates that conflict between the two will only blossom as the story proceeds.
