FEED   (Dark Horse, 1999)

™ and ©1999 Shane Hawks and Mike Allred

Designed as a prequel to “Eyes to Heaven,” an independent film about ghosts that eat the life forces of the living, this comic is a cool vision of toned blues and blacks, capturing the claustrophobic, emotionally distant feel of hospitals.

Unfortunately, it makes no sense. The story involves a jealous nun who might be dead, a mentally imbalanced man with a Jesus complex, and a touch of incest. Perhaps its lack of coherence is due to its being a prequel, but even the essay at the end describing the genesis of the work provides precious little help in trying to figure out the narrative.

This one shot was created by writer Shane Hawks and artist Mike Allred, creator of The Atomics and Madman.
