Eternal Romance

 ETER   (Best Destiny, 1997-1998)

™ and ©1997 Janet L. Hetherington

Janet Hetherington takes the starry-eyed romance comics of the fifties and gives them a unique twist. The protagonists in comics like Bride’s Secrets and Young Romance used to wonder how to find the love of their lives. Here, the young lovers must worry about making love last for all eternity. Literally.

Yes, Eternal Romance is all about vampires in love. Told in the fluttering-heart style of the past, it mixes in the unique problems that come with perpetual night jobs, aging at different rates from your mortal husband, and knowing when it’s ok to “take the plunge” and become a vampire yourself. It’s at once nostalgic and a refreshingly unique comic, with none of the horror and/or bad-girl clichés that characterize modern “vampire girl” comics.
