Pulp Fiction

 PULL   (A-List, 1997-1999)

As the medium of comic books enters its seventh decade, the copyrights on some of the earliest material produced by defunct publishers of the 1930s are slipping into public domain, along with the lurid stories that first saw press in the pulp magazines of the same era. A-List Comics has gathered a treasure trove of such material in its lineup of black-and-white reprint books, including Pulp Fiction. On one hand, readers get to enjoy episodes of “Hawk (of the Seas)” from the early issues of Jumbo Comics; some of the first work by comics pioneer Will Eisner (a.k.a. “Willis Rensie”); an extremely rare, early horror tale by Jack Kirby; single-page gag strips by Batman creator, Bob Kane; and vintage stories from the pulps. However, this enjoyment is tempered by the realization that the creators, some of whom are still alive or survived by their estates, will receive no benefit from these reprints.
