A frothy confection masterminded by arch Bettie fan Dave Stevens, who also contributes scripts, pinups and the occasional inking job. The three short stories each issue deal with classic 1950s trash genres, evoking the era in which Bettie’s modelling peaked. From B-movies to jungle adventures, the stories are lovingly crafted and simultaneously wonderfully inconsequential. Chief among the delights on display is “Mars Wants Bettie,” written by Jeph Loeb and drawn with relish by Russ Heath in #1, wherein our heroine unwittingly foils an alien invasion. The second issue is a single story by Jim Silkie, which is pretty enough, but hardly essential. ~DAR
