This giant-sized anthology series was “published spasmodically” by Atomeka between 1989 and 1992. Although editor Dave Elliott planned six issues from the start, he took his time with the series, making sure he got it right.

The result is nothing short of astonishing. Each issue reads like a “Who’s Who” of British comics talent, featuring new stories by Alan Moore (Watchmen), Grant Morrison (Animal Man), Eddie Campbell (Deadface), and Neil Gaiman (Sandman). The artwork is equally distinguished, with contributions by John Bolton (Black Dragon), Dave McKean (Cages), Glenn Fabry, Dave Gibbons, Brian Bolland…the list goes on and on. A1 is a series truly worthy of the name.
